What is a Life Coach?

To explain what a Life Coach is, we need to start with: What is Coaching?

Coaching is an activity where a coach works towards developing the abilities of a coachee.

“Coaching focuses on an existing problem, that the cochee wishes “to move away from”, or a specific outcome that the individual wishes to achieve or “move towards to”. In both cases, the coach aims to stimulate the coachee to uncover unknown knowledge so the cochee can achieve and maintain a specific result.

In practicing coaching, there are times when the coach may find that a coachee is so unfamiliar, inexperienced or ignorant of an area (that needs sharp focus in order for them to achieve their stated aim), that the coach will need to impart knowledge and examples to the coachee, before again returning to the facilitation style.” – Based on the Wikipedia definitions.

Now, what is Life Coaching?

Life coaching is a future-focused practice with the aim of helping clients determine and achieve personal goals. It is based on the client’s expressed interests, goals and objectives.

The Life Coach

The Life coach select from among several methods to help clients set and reach goals: management consulting and leadership training, sociology, psychology, positive adult development, mentoring, value assessment, behaviour modification, behaviour modelling, goal-setting and other specific or personalized techniques.

The Life Coach may teach specific insights and skills to empower the client toward their goals.

Clients are responsible for their own achievements and success. The client takes action, and the life coach may assist, but never leads or does more than the client. A Professional Life Coach is not a counsellor nor a therapist.” – Based on the Wikipedia definitions.
